|Target Audience / Intended Audience||This activity is intended to meet the educational needs of primary care clinicians including internists, family physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are seeking additional education in the assessment, diagnosis and ongoing health care of patients with cognitive impairment and dementia.|
|Statement of Need / Activity Purpose||
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) affects more than 5 million Americans and is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Quality care for AD and other dementias starts with an early, documented diagnosis, including disclosure of the diagnosis. However, among individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, evidence indicates about half have not been diagnosed, and of those who have been diagnosed, less than half are aware of their diagnosis. The reasons for the state of under-diagnosis are complex, but lack of follow-through by both patient and clinician play a role.
This five-module curriculum will educate primary care clinicians and provide tools that will lead to a more timely diagnosis of their patients and help them and their caregivers throughout the disease progression.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
|Method of Participation||
This curriculum will take approximately 75 minutes to complete. To receive maximum credit, participants are required to view all five modules and achieve a score of at least 66 percent on the post-test. Upon completion of the activity evaluation form, a certificate will be immediately available. There is no fee to participate in the activity or for the generation of the certificate.
