Target Audience / Intended Audience This activity is intended to meet the educational needs of psychologists and primary care clinicians including internists, family physicians, radiologists, neurologists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are seeking additional education in the assessment, diagnosis and ongoing health care of patients with cognitive impairment and dementia.
Statement of Need / Activity Purpose

ACTIVITY EN350-1121

The purpose of this webinar is to review the basic principles, clinical applications and state-of-the-art advances in Alzheimer's research using the functional imaging techniques of FDG-PET and functional MRI. Learners will have a better understanding of how images are formed, the characteristic changes that Alzheimer's disease and related dementias cause on these images, and how to process and analyze these images.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define the biological processes that are fundamental to the acquisition of FDG-PET imaging
  • Identify the characteristic features of FDG-PET imaging in patients with Alzheimer's disease
  • Distinguish between FDG-PET presentation in typical forms of Alzheimer's disease with atypical variants and non-AD forms of dementia 
  • Review the physical and biological processes that are fundamental to the acquisition of fMRI
  • Differentiate methods for processing and analyzing fMRI data
  • Analyze the various applications of fMRI data in Alzheimer's disease
Method of Participation

This curriculum will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. To receive maximum credit, participants are required to view the presentation in its entirety. Upon completion of the activity, post-test, and evaluation form, a certificate will be immediately available. There is no fee to participate in the activity or for the generation of the certificate.
