Diversity and Disparities PIA: Examining the Roles of Acculturation and Low Education in Cognitive Functioning Among Older Adults in the United States and Brazil

Recorded: July 13, 2021

Subcortical Cognitive functioning remains the prevailing outcome in aging and ADRD scientific inquiry. Yet, data are limited in how novel constructs like acculturation and low education impact cognitive functioning in diverse populations (e.g., ethnoracial, geographical). The webinar characterizes ""acculturation in context"" (dynamic exchange between new and host members of society) and its relationship with cognitive and brain aging in older Latinos residing in the United States as well as presents findings from a population-based study of older adults in Brazil (75+ years) with very low education but with high cognitive performance, reinforcing sociobiological substrates.
